JOE SCOTTS REPORT,LEAGUE WEEK 18

Welcome back to the FonaCab Central darts league where the final game of the league was upon us. After the excitement of last weeks individuals final which saw Davy McCusker retain the Jody Reynolds cup all focus was back on the league. This week the Forresters played host to Donegal Celtic while st Matthews made the journey to Hibs 58. Clonard Hibs held home advantage over O’Donnells, Star Celtic visited Casement and finally Caseys hosted Crumlin Star. Without further ado let’s see how the last night of the league unfolded and who would be crowned league champions 2018.

Casement 6 - 2 Star Celtic

Match one of the night saw Casement take on Star Celtic. With third place still up for grabs Casement needed to take the win. Paul Condon got Casement off the the perfect start beating Gerard Smith 2-0 in 26 darts.Man of the Match Gerry McCormick doubled their lead with a 2-0 win over Henry McTasney jnr in 21 and 26 darts. Martin Lavery furthered Casements lead with a 2-0 win over Eamon McGovern in 25 and 26 darts. With Casement in full flow Star Celtic relies on Gerard Burns to stem the tide. Burns beating Ciaran McKay 2-1 in 19 darts, with McKay offering stern resistance with a 23 darter. Rab Lyttle reduced Casements lead further with a 2-1 win over Michael Tierney. Joe Doone reestablished Casements lead with a 2-1 win over Tony Kelly before Kieran McGuinness guaranteed full points with a 2-0 win over Paddy McAlleese in 22 darts. Finally Venti Lenzi outbattled Aaron McGovern 2-0 in 27 darts to complete the win for Casement.

The Forresters 1 - 7 Donegal Celtic

Game one saw Matt Doone get DC off to a good start beating Paul Stafford 2-1. Joe Corr quickly made it two with a 2-0 win over Martin Stafford in 22 darts. Paddy McKeown extended DC’s lead with a 2-1 win over Sean Fitzpatrick in 25 darts. Freddie Steagles rallied his team with a 2-1 win over Kevin O’Carroll with O’Carroll providing opposition with a 180 and 23 darter. Alan Hanna reestablished DC’s lead with a 2-1 win over Gerard Callaghan before Chinky Smith secures the win with a 2-0 victory over Andy Gray. Sean Armstrong continued his good run of form with a 2-1 win over Paddy Dempsey before Paddy McGuinness finished the game in style with a man of the match performance. McGuinness taking care of Sean McCurdy 2-1 in 23 and 25 darts.

Clonard Hibs 4 - 4 O’Donnells

Next up saw Clonard Hibs welcome O’Donnells to the Hibs Club with plenty left to fight for. With O’Donnells needing the win for a chance at 3rd place every game would count. Game 1 saw Adam McDade continue where he left off with a 2-0 win over Brendan McStravick in 17 darts with a 180 along the way. Comer Toner furthered Hibs lead with a 2-1 win over Rab Creen. Super sub John Doyle continued Hibs run with a 2-1 win over Paul Press in 20 darts. Stevie Jones rallied his teammates with a 2-0 win over Dan Delaney with Kev O’Neill following suit with a 2-1 win over Stephen Magee. O’Neill winning in 25 darts with Magee providing resistance with a 22 darter. Conor Hana weighed in with a well timed man of the match performance to guarantee a draw. Hanna beating Tucker Kearney 2-0 in 18 and 24 darts. Ricky Saddler kept O’Donnells in the match with a 2-0 win over John McGrath with a brace of 24 darts. Finally Eddie Robb outbattled John McCann winning 2-1 in 23 darts to ensure a share of the spoils for both teams.

Caseys 4 - 4 Crumlin Star

Hibs 58 6 - 2 St Matthews

The final match of the night saw newly crowned league champions Hibs 58 take on St Matthews. Game 1 saw Individuals champion Davy McCusker get Hibs off to a perfect start beating Martin Irwin 2-1. Martin Corbett extended their lead with a 2-1 win over Jap McKinley. Corbett winning in 17 darts with a 180 while McKinley provided stern resistance with a 19 darter of his own. Damien Corbett overcame Joe McAttamney 2-0 in 24 darts before Martin Mooney guaranteed at least a draw with a 2-0 win over pat McGahan in 20 darts. With the game slipping away from them St Matthews relied on Billy McDade to rally his team. He duly obliged by beating Mark Lynch 2-0 in 21 and 24 darts. Unfortunately st Matts revival would be short lived with Peter McDonnell jnr taking care of Mick McCartan 2-0 in 24 darts to secure the win for Hibs 58. Peter McDonnell snr chipped in with a man of the match display beating joe O’Kane 2-0 in 19 and 22 darts with a 171 along the way. Finally Con Kielty pulled one back for St Matts with a 2-1 win over Sean Patterson in 23 and 24 darts.

With the league now concluded and with only the DC cup left to fight for the final league positions are as follows.

Hibs 58 (champions) 35 pts

Clonard Hibs. 27pts

Casement. 24pts

O’Donnell’s. 23pts

St Matthews. 19pts

Crumlin Star. 19pts

Star Celtic. 9pts

Caseys. 9pts

Donegal Celtic. 9pts

Congratulations to Hibs 58 on retaining the FonaCab Central darts league title. Unbeaten through the whole season winning every game and a draw they were exceptional and worthy champions. Next week all focus will be on the DC cup as the last opportunity to taste cup success. Until next week keep practicing and remember to hold your nerve.
