Welcome to the FonaCab Central darts league where all eyes were on the O’Donnells club for the conclusion of the Sparrow McLaughlin Cup. After last weeks qualifying round we were left with four teams all fancying their chances of glory. The semi final draw saw Clonard Hibs play Donegal Celtic while Crumlin Star took on Hibs 58. Without further ado lets see how the night unfolded.
Semi final 1
The first semi final saw Clonard Hibs battle it out with Donegal Celtic for a place in the final. Game 1 saw Alan Hanna get DC off to a flyer beating Dan Sloan. Stephen Magee levelled the score beating Sean Armstrong in 31 darts. Matt Doone reestablished DC’s lead beating Anto Smith before Conor Hanna restored parity once again beating Kevin O’Carroll in 31 darts. Chinky Smith provided DC with the lead beat Conor Toner before Dee Ireland overcame Gerard O’Hanlon to put DC within touching distance of the final. The last game saw Paddy McKeown battle it out with John McGrath with both players throwing well. However it was to be McKeown to prevail in 28 darts to send the DC men into another final.
Semi final 2
The second semi final of the night saw Hibs 58 take on Crumlin Star. Game 1 saw Davy McCusker get the Hibs men off to a good start beating Frankie McGeogh in 36 darts. Martin Corbett made it 2-0 beating Willie Mullan. Paul Porter rallied his team beating Martin Mooney in 30 darts. Mark Lynch furthered Hibs lead beating Fra Glennon in 26 darts before Sean Patterson put the Hibs men within touching distance of the final. Patterson beating Peter Fitzpatrick in 29 darts. P McAllorum kept the Crumlin men in the game beating Joe Dinnen before Damien Corbett took care of Jim Flannigan in 30 darts to send into the final.
After two weeks of qualifying rounds we were now down to two teams. Hibs 58, the league leaders, against DC, who were hungry for another taste of Cup glory. Game 1 saw Peter McDonnell snr get the Hibs men off to a flyer beating Matt Doone in 30 darts. Sean Patterson quickly made it 2-0 beating Alan Hanna. Paddy McGuinness got DC off the mark beating Joe Dinnen before Davey McCusker restored Hibs lead beating Dee Ireland in 27 darts. Colm McGuinness rallied his team mates with a good win over Martin Corbett with Sean Armstrong following suit beating Mark Lynch. With the game finely balanced at 3-3 it was difficult to predict the outcome. The next game saw Paddy McKeown taking on Tucker Clarke. Clarke chowing a perfect time for a man of the match performance winning in 24 darts taking out a lovely 113 finish. With the momentum back in Hibs favour Chinky Smith and Damien Corbett battled it out in the last game. Both players scored well however it was Damien Corbett who was to prevail and ensure the Sparrow McLaughlin Cup would be going back to the Hibs Club. Congratulations to Hibs 58 on their cup success and congratulations to Donegal Celtic for another excellent cup performance.
