Welcome back to the FonaCab Central darts league where after two weeks of nail biting qualifiers we were down to the last 32 all vying to prevail as Jody Reynolds individuals champion 2018. Without further ado let’s see how the night unfolded.
The first match of the night saw Tommy Henry overcome Jap Craig in a 3-2 thriller, with Craig throwing a 19 darter. Jim Lavery took care of Tom Kearney 3-1 while Joe Flannery showed his class with a 3-0 win over Micky Tierney. Finally Brendan McStravick showed he was in the mood with a 3-1 win over Peter Fitzpatrick.
Match 1 saw John Doyle show his intent with a 3-0 win over Paul Wisdom. Rab Creen followed suit winning 3-0 against John Turley. Conor Hanna overcame Sean Armstrong 3-1 before Stephen Magee continued his good form with a 3-0 win over Jim Lynch.
Match 1 saw reigning Davy McCusker edge past Martin Mooney in a close fought affair. McCusker winning 3-2 in 15 darts with a 180 along the way. Gerry McCormick showed his class with a 3-1 win over Dougie Bowes before Ben Lagan combined scoring and finishing to good effect beating Conor Toner 3-0 in 15 darts taking out 136. Finally Matt Doone continued his good form with a battling 3-2 win over Joe O’Kane.
Match 1 saw Paul Thompson progress to the last 16 with a 3-1 win over Joe Corr. Dan Sloan made light work of Ricky Saddler winning 3-1 in 16 darts. Peter McDonnell snr showed his class with a 3-1 win over Joe McAttamney. McDonnell winning in 16 darts with a 170 and 171 along the way. Finally Gerard Burns progressed to the next round with an excellent 3-0 win over Billy McDade.
Match 1 saw Rab Creen make light work of Joe Flannery winning 3-0 with a 180 along the way. Conor Hanna combined scoring and finishing to devastating effect beating Gerry McCormick 3-1 in 14 darts with an 84 finish.
Match 1 saw Stephen Magee show his intent with a 3-2 win over Tommy Henry. Magee winning in 17 and 23 darts. Davy McCusker continued his outstanding form with a 3-1 win over John Doyle. McCusker finishing in 15 darts with 2 maximums along the way.
Match 1 saw a Gerard Burns progress to the quarter final with a 3-0 win over Jim Lavery. Burns throwing a 180 with Lavery, not wanting to be outdone, replied with one of his own. Ben Lagan used his experience to take care of Dan Sloan 3-1 winning in 19,20 and 24 darts.
Match 1 saw Peter McDonnell snr book his quarter final place with a 3-0 win over Matt Doone. Paul Thompson overcame a battling Brendan McStravick 3-1 to progress to the last 8.
The first quarter final of the night saw Stephen Magee make light work of Rab Creen winning 3-0. Davy McCusker booker his semi final place with a 3-0 win over Ben Lagan winning in 15 darts. Gerard Burns showed his class with a 3-0 win over Paul Thompson. Finally Peter McDonnell snr overcame a tough match with Conor Hanna winning 3-0 with Hanna throwing a 180 along the way.
The first semi final of the night saw Peter McDonnell snr take on Stephen Magee. With both players having shown excellent form all season it would be difficult to separate them. Both players scored well however it was Magee to prevail and book a well earned place in the final. The second semi final saw Davy McCusker take on Gerard Burns with both players fancying their chance of lifting the cup. Both players scored well however it was McCusker to prevail and book his place in the final.
After three weeks of gruelling qualifiers only two remained, Reigning Champion Davy McCusker and Stephen Magee. With both players having shown some of the best form throughout the year it was a fighting final. Game 1 saw Magee get off to a flyer winning in 24 darts. McCusker quickly levelled the match winning in 21 darts. McCusker took the lead winning in 23 darts before going 3-1 up in 21 darts. The last game saw both players score well with Magee refusing to go down without a fight. However McCusker held his nerve to prevail 4-1 and become the 2018 Jody Reynolds individuals champion. Congratulations to Davy McCusker on fantastic back to back individual championships wins and congratulations to Stephen Magee for an excellent run to the final.
Running alongside the Jody Reynolds individuals was a consolation cup for those having missed out on the finals night. The first quarter final saw Kevin O’Neill show his class beating Martin Irwin throwing 2x180s along the way. Tony Kelly edged past Henry McTasney snr before Martin Corbett booked his Semi final place with a win over Paddy McKeown. Finally Gary Smith overcame Tommy Fitzpatrick to progress to the next round.
The first semi final saw Martin Corbett take care of Tony Kelly to book his place in the final. Kev O’Neill continued his excellent run of form with a win over Gary Smith.
The “Duffers” final
The final saw Kev O’Neill take on Martin corbett with both player fancying the chances of lifting the consolation cup. Game 1 saw O’Neill take the lead winning in 29 darts. Corbett quickly levelled with a 27 darter. With both players scoring well it was difficult to separate them. O’Neill throwing 2x140s and 5x100s just edged out Corbett in a thriller to prevail 2-1 winner and Duffer Champion 2018. Congratulations Kevin O’Neill on an excellent Cup display and congratulations to Martin Corbett for another excellent cup run.
