Welcome back to the FonaCab Central darts league where the second night of qualifiers for the Jody Reynolds individuals was upon us. All players descended upon the Crumlin Star in hope of booking a place in the final night. Without further ado let’s see how the night unfolded.
Board 1: Match 1 saw Tony Corr take care of Sam McMahon 2-0. Joe O’Kane showed his class with a 2-0 win over Rab Lyttle in 17 and 20 darts. Gerry McCormick edged past Chip Craig 2-1 with a 20 darter in the process. Finally Dan Sloan continued his good form with a 2-0 win over Olcan Kearney with an 18 darter.
Board 2: Match 1 saw Conor Hanna and Martin Irwin battle it out in a close fought affair. However it was Hanna class and youth that would see him prevail 2-1. Peter Fitzpatrick edged past Kevin O’Neill 2-1 before Matt Doone showed his intent with a 2-1 win over Gerry Murray.
Board 3: Paul Condon made light work of Fra Glennon with a 2-0 win in 19 and 23 darts. Tommy Henry and Brian Kerr served up a close battle with Henry progressing 2-1 with 3x140s. Finally Gerard Burns showed his class with a 2-1 win over Kevin O’Carroll.
Board 4: Jim Flannegan took care of Henry McCann in a close match winning 2-1. Matt Maloney battled it out with John Toner to progress with a 2-1 win. Finally Joe Scott broke the habit of a lifetime with a 2-1 win over Tucker Kearney.
With the preliminaries taken care of only 32 remained. With the same 501 best of 3 format in play there would be no hiding place.
Board 1: Match 1 saw Mickey Tierney edge past Eamon McGovern 2-1. Gerard Burns continued his good form with a 2-1 win over Stephen Curley with a 180 along the way. Gerry McCormick showed his class with a 2-1 win over Paddy McKeown with a 20 darter. Finally Conor Hanna showed his intent with a 17 darter and 2-0 win over Frankie McGeogh.
Board 2: Match 1 saw Sean Armstrong send Joe Scott crashing out 2-0 in 23 darts. The comeback kid John Doyle continued his revival with a 2-0 win over James Porter while Joe O’Kane made light work of Willie McKee, winning 2-0. Finally Joe Flannery booked his place in the final night with a 2-1 win over Tony Corr.
Board 3: Match 1 saw Matt Doone show his class with an excellent 2-0 win over Mark Lynch. Jap Craig outbattled Martin Maloney to progress with a 2-1 win. John Turley and Ciaran McKay fought out a close match with both men showing good form. However it was Turley to progress 2-1 in 20 and 21 darts. Finally Peter Fitzpatrick booked his place in the final night overcoming Con Kielty 2-1.
Board 4: Math 1 saw Dan Sloan make light work of Mick McCartan to progress 2-0. Joe Corr edged past Henry McTasney jnr to win 2-1. Conor Toner got his priorities right with an excellent 2-0 win over Paul Condon. Finally Tommy Henry continued his good run of form with a 2-0 win over Jim Flannegan.
With the qualifiers now taken care of all eyes will be on the final night when the last 32 will battle it out to see who is crowned the Jody Reynolds individuals champion 2018.
Before then we are back to the league where Clonard Hibs travel to Donegal Celtic. Caseys welcome the Forresters while Crumlin Star battle it out with Star Celtic. Finally Casement travel to Hibs 58 while O’Donnells play host to St Matthews in what promises to be another high quality night of darts.
