Crumlin Star club was the venue for week one of the Eddie Corbett cup, the format of the cup is one game of 701 played over nine games, first team to reach five.
The cup is played over two weeks. Week one seen two preliminary games and four quarter finals leaving two semi finals and final in week two.
The draw done for the prelims seen Caseys to play Star Celtic on board 1. And on board 2 it was Donegal Celtic play Foresters.
Caseys 2-5 Star Celtic
This game was a replay of last weeks league game that Caseys won 5-3, in that game Star Celtic thought they played well enough to get at least a draw from that game. So it was revenge time for Celtic.
The draw done and up first for Caseys it was Gerard Holmes his opponent was last weeks man of the match Rab Lyttle. Unfortunately for Lyttle there was to be no repeat of last week, as Holmes won the first game for Caseys.
The second game was levelled by Henry McTasney Jnr as he beat Eugene Brannigan. It was Henry McTasney Snr that won the next game beating Olcan Kearney. In the next game,
Star Celtic’s Stevie Curley out pointed Caseys Stevie Leckey, the match now 3-1 to Star Celtic. Dan Cahoon pulled one back for Caseys beating Paul Fitzpatrick.
Unfortunately for Caseys that was to be their last win as Tony Kelly and Eamon McGovern won the last two games, securing the match for star Celtic beating Brian Kerr and Liam McMenamin putting them into the quarterfinals .
Donegal Celtic 5-3 Foresters
D/C started off with a win in the first game through Matt Doon, he beat Paul Stafford. Next up Sean McCurdy won the next game for Foresters beating Alan Hanna.
D/C took game three through Colm McGuinness, he out played Andy Gray, 2-1 to D/C
Paddy McGuinness beat Ray Lavery, the game now 3-1 to D/C.
Kevin Robinson pulled one back for Foresters beating Gary Smith with an 84 check out.
Caoimhe Burns kept the momentum going for Foresters, as he levelled the game 3-3 beating Felix McGeown.
Harry Smith and Joe Corr won the last two games beating Michael Burns and Gerard securing the win for Donegal Celtic, and through to the draw for the quarter finals.
With the preliminary games played it was down to the quarter final draw. Out first on board 1, was Hibs 58 v Casement, Board 2, Crumlin Star v Clonard Hibs, Board 3, St Matthews’s v O’Donnells, and on board 4, Star Celtic v Donegal Celtic,

Board three on paper looked too be to close to call and this proved to be as both teams give it their all but unfortunately there could only be one winner and that was St Matthews.
