ST MATTHEWS WIN THE EDDIE CORBETT CUP

The Crumlin Star rooms were packed for the semifinals and final of the Eddie Corbett cup and the semifinals saw St Matthews play the Forresters and Casement play Clonard Hibs

SEMI FINAL 1

ST MATTHEWS 5 THE FORRESTERS 2

This was a tighter game than the scoreline suggests but in the end it's the double that counts Sean Fitzpatrick (34) got the Forresters off to a great start beating Billy McDade only for Jap McKinley to beat Andy Gray and level at 1-1, but Stevie Murphy then beat Joe O Kane to edge the Forresters ahead 2-1 but then St Matthews took over,  Dessie Magee (34) beat Paul Stafford to level at 2-2 and man of the match Con Kielty (33) made it 3-2 with his win over Michael Burns, and it was 4-2 thanks to Allan Brown (35) beating an unlucky Kevin Robinson and John Considine then sent St Matthews into the final with a tight win over Martin Stafford with the final score 5-2 to St Matthews

SEMI FINAL 2

CASEMENT 5 CLONARD HIBS 4

This one went all the way to the wire starting with man of the match Ricky Saddler (33&51f) beating Kevin Campbell and Kieran McGuinness (30) making it 2-0 to Casement with his win over Pearse Maguire. Back came Clonard thanks to Dan Delaney beating Michael Tierney to make it 2-1, and it was 3-1 to Casement when Joe Doone (33) had an impressive win over Adam McDade, but once again Clonard pulled one back with Sean Paul Grant beating Chopper McKay to make it 3-2 only for Gerry McCormick to restore the two game advantage with his win over John McCann. Clonard weren't done yet and Anto Smith beat Paul Condon and then Conor Hanna beat Eddie Robb to level at 4-4, and it was all down to the last game with Martin Lawlor facing Sean Finnegan and it was Martin who held his nerve to send Casement into the final

THE FINAL

ST MATTHEWS 5 CASEMENT 1

This ended up a little one sided with a mixture of good play from St Matthews and the odd missed double from Casement,  Dessie Magee(33) put St Matthews 1-0 up with a win over Michael Tierney and it was 2-0 when Billy McDade (38) beat Paul Condon.  Allan Brown (35) then beat Martin Lawlor to make it 3-0. The next game saw Joe O Kane sneak past Chopper McKay to make it 4-0, In the next match Kieran McGuinness (31) got Casement back into it with a man of the match performance against John Considine, but it was in vain, as Con Kielty (33&60f) beat Ricky Saddler to give St Matthews the silverware

I would like to congratulate St Matthews on winning the Eddie Corbett cup and commiserate with Casement and I would like to thank the Crumlin Star for their generous sponsorship and use of their club

Next week its back to the league
