EDDIE CORBETT CUP report

All nine teams turned up for this great cup competition in the Crumlin Star A preliminary match saw DC Swifts drawn against Caseys

DC SWIFTS 5 CASEYS 4

This game ebbed and flowed one way then the other

Tom Kearney put Dc 1up beating Stephen Lecky in a scrappy game but Caseys then went 3 1 up with Seamy Roberts beating Felix McGeown Paul Smith beating Kevin O Neill and Orchan Kearney beating Harry Smith

Man of the match James McStravick beat Dan Cahoon and Tucker Kearney beat Gerry McIlduff to level at 3 3

Eugene Brannigan won against Caolan Kearney for 4 3 but it was 4 4 when Junior McManus beat Peter Lecky

In the final game young Michael Burns held his nerve to hit his double after Gerard Holmes had missed a few chances

The Quarter final draw was

Dc Swifts vs Star Celtic

Crumlin Star vs St Matthews

Hibs 58 vs Clonard Hibs

Dc vs Casement

Dc Swifts 5 Star Celtic 4

Another one that went all the way

Dc went 2 0 up with wins for Caolan Kearney over Paul Fitzpatrick and man of the match Michael Burns (28) over Ian Haywood

It was soon 2 2 when Tony Kelly beat Tom Kearney and Martin Maloney beat James McStravick It was 3 2 Dc with a win for Patrick McGeown over Aaron McGovern but Gerard Smith beat Kevin O Neill to level at 3 3

Dc edged ahead 4 3 with Tucker Kearney beating Henry McTasney snr only for Henry McTasney jnr to level at 4 4 beating Junior McManus and in the final game Rab Lyttle beat Harry Smith to send the Star men into the semi finals

CRUMLIN STAR 1 ST MATTHEWS 5

St Matthews raced into a 4 0 lead starting with a man of the match performance from Davy McCusker (24) over Tommy Henry

Micky McCartan beat Robert Creen to make it 2 0 and it was 3 when Joe Mc Attamney beat Jim Flanagan

Martin Irwin beat Freddie Stelges to make it 4 0

Ben Lagan got Crumlin Star on the board with a good win over Jap Mc Kinley and in the next game Peter Fitzpatrick missed a few at the doubles to let Billy McDade in and he finished to put St Matthews through to the semis

HIBS 58 1 CLONARD HIBS 5

Adam McDade (27&180) beat Joe Dineen to make it 1 0 with Mark Lynch beating John Mc Cann to level at 1 1

That was as good as it got for 58

Sean Paul Grant beat Damien Corbett and Dan Delaney (24) made it 3 1 with his man of the match performance over Peter McDonald jnr

Tommy Fitzpatrick beat Dee Jordan to make it 4 1 and John Doyle sealed the match with a good win over Tony Corr

DONEGAL CELTIC 4

CASEMENT 5

Another match to go all the way

Sean Kerr put the Casement 1up with a win over Seamus Armstrong only for man of the match Alan Hanna(30) to level at 1 1 with a good win over Vinty Lenzi Sean Armstrong made it 2 1 beating Gerry McCormick but it was 2 2 when Paul Condon beat Eamon McVeigh

Casement then went 4 2 up with Joe Doone beating Joe Corr and Ciaran McKay beating Dee Smith but DC weren't done and levelled at 4 4 with Gary Smith beating Pat Mc Guinness and Paul Doonan beating Ricky Saddler

So again another match went to the wire and it was Casement that went through to the semis thanks to Ciaran McGuinness beating the unlucky John McLaughlin

Next week is the semi finals and final in the Crumlin Star rooms
