“Clonard Hibs lay down a marker against reigning Champs and stay unbeaten in League”

Clonard Hibs 6 vs 2 St. Mathews

St. Mathews travelled across town to face Clonard Hibs in their Falls road clubrooms knowing they needed a big victory to get closer to their rivals at the top of the league standings. Unfortunately a big shock awaited them.

Anto Smith 2-1 100, 100, 85, 85, 84 has taken a few scalps in recent matches and he started the ball rolling for the home side with a hard fought victory over Mick McCartan (29) 121, 100, 100, 81, 80. Jimmy Lavery 100, 95, 85, 85, 83, 81 took the first leg in the next against John Doyle but big Doyler replied with scores of 120, 100, 100, 99, 82, 81 to take the next two legs and put his team 2 – 0 in front. The next game brought together two of the leagues finest and a tight game was expected but Adam McDade 2-0 (20 & 26) 136, 123, 96, 86, 85, 85,78, 76 took no prisoners against Martin Irwin 125, 81, 81, 81, 78 to make the score 3 vs 0 for Hibs. Hugh McShane 2-1 123, 123, 85, 81, 81, 70, 70 just about got the better of Jap McKinley 118, 100, 100, 98, 83, meaning they were assured of at least a point at four without reply. They weren’t settling for just one point however as next up for Hibs Pearse Maguire 2-0 (18 & 26) 135, 125, 123, 100, 81, 75 beat Billy McDade 125, 98, 97, 86, 80 and leave the score 5 vs 0. Davy McCusker 2-0 (24 & 27) 125, 100, 100, 85, 81, 81 took the next for St. Mats against old team mate Dan Delaney 125, 100, 85, 80, 70 to make it 5 vs 1 only to then watch another ex teammate Desi Magee 2-0 (20 & 30) 140, 100, 95, 85, 85, 80, 60 make it 6 vs 1 in beating Con Kielty 140, 85, 81, 81, 81. In the last game of the evening Seamy Roberts 2 1 (25 & 27) 100, 100, 100, 100, 85 got the better of an unlucky Connor Hanna (26) who hit scores of 140, 115, 105, 97, 85, 81, 81, 81, 79, 70 over three legs but still lost leaving the final result 6 vs 2.

MOM: Pearse Maguire

Crumlin Star 4 vs Star Celtic 4

At the start of December Crumlin Star were unbeaten Joint league leaders and had won a massive cup victory into the bargain. Since those heady days they have struggled to keep up the momentum and have suffered a few times recently. However they would have fancied themselves against their club rivals Star Celtic. Hugh Grieves 2-0 (21 & 30) 121, 100, 100, 99, 98 got them off to a cracking start beating Henry McTasney snr 85, 60, 60, 60. Big Dougie Bowes hit scores of 180, 100, 87, 66, 60, 60, 60 in the next game but it didn’t stop Gary Healy 2-0 (24 & 33 + 67 bull fin) levelling it at 1 vs 1. John Dillon 2-0 (16) 135, 132, 121, 60 beat Paul Fitzpatrick 100, 81, 60, 60, 60, 60, to put Crumlin back in front 2 vs 1. Freddie Stilges 2-1 135, 133, 133, 85, 84, 79, 68, 66, 60 hit some cracking scores in his win over Tony Kelly who responded with his own scores of 98, 97, 95, 95, 85, 85, 80, 60 to make it 3 vs 1. Crumlin’s Tommy Henry 2-0 140, 100, 99, 60, 62 made it 4 vs 1 when he beat Celtic’s Dan Anderson 123, 100, 81, 71 and assured his team of at least a point. Daniel Haywood 2-1 (18 & 23) 140, 100, 100, 100, 85, 83, 70, 60, 60, 60, 60, 60 produced a MOM performance against Peter Fitzpatrick (27) 100, 95, 85, 81, 81, 81, 60, 60 to make it 4 vs 2 and gave fantastic encouragement to his teammates to battle away. Rab Lyttle 2-0 (27 & 27) 95, 95, 81, 81, 60, 60, 60 responded in kind and made it 4 vs 3 when he beat Fra “Big Note” Glennon 97, 85, 79, 71, 71, 57, 57, 57. The last leg was between the experienced Jim Flannigan of Crumlin against the enthusiasm of youth in Rhys Haywood of Star Celtic. Rhys took the first leg in with scores of 100, 85, 81 to his opponents 108, 83, 81, 57. Jim hit score of 95, 79, 57, 57 in the second to Rhys’s 124, 85, 78, 77, 60 to leave it going to the last leg which Rhys won with scores of 71, 71, 71, 65, 60 against Jim’s 97, 85, 67, 57 to square the match and leave the result a fantastic 4 vs 4 draw.

The Swilly 3 vs 5 Hibs 58

The Swilly have taken quite a few scalps this season already and in the reverse fixture at the start of the season gave their more illustrious opponents another run for their money with a similar scoreline. Patrick McGeown 2-1 (21 & 33) 180 121, 98, 96, 95, 86, 81, 76 took the first game beating Connor Christie 100, 100, 66, 66, 60, 60. Martin Corbett 2-0 (20 & 26) 180 137, 100, 85, 85, 60 took the next over Tom Kearney 95, 95, 93, 83, 80, 79 1 vs 1. Kevin O’Neill 2-0 (24 & 29) 125, 100, 85, 83, 83, 75, 74 beat Hib’s Joe Dinnen 140, 85, 85, 85, 60 2 vs 1 to the home team. Brendan McStravick 2-0 140, 100, 100,100 81, 80 put the Suffolk team 3 vs 1 up beating young Adam Lynch 105, 85, 75, 60, 60, 60 to put them very close to at least a point. The fifth game was pivotal however. It brought together Paul Goodman from Swilly & Damien Corbett of Hibs. Damien 2-1 played fantastic darts with scores of 140, 100, 100, 100, 95, 81, 80, 60, 60 over three legs against Paul’s 140, 100, 100, 100, 100 95, 85 and it was just his finishing which helped him win this game 3 vs 2. The next game was another cracker that could have went either way but Tony Corr 2-1 (25 & 26) 100, 100, 100, 95, 95, 85, 85, 80, 65 just got the better of Tucker Kearny (21) 95, 95, 91, 85, 84, 81, 81, 66, 60, 60 to level it at 3 vs 3. Sean Patterson 2-0 (33 & 31) 121, 100, 100, 100, 85, 85, 74, 61, 60 had all the luck going when he beat Mick Burns 100, 100, 95, 95, 82, 81, 81, 75 to put Hibs in front for the first time of the evening 4 vs 3. Eamo McVeigh (28) started off the last game of the night taking the first leg with scores of 81, 81, 81, 76, 60, 60 over Tucker Clarke (21)100, 60, 60, 60 but Tucker has bags of experience and he used every ounce of it to take the last two legs with scores of 180 140, 100, 85, 85, 70, 68, 60, 60 over Eamo’s 89, 60, 60, 60, 60, 60, 60 to lave the final score 3 vs 5.

Casey’s 4 vs 4 Donegal Celtic

These two teams have had great battles this season already and almost all have been very close calls. Dan Cahoon 2-0 (23 & 27) 134, 125, 85, 81, 81, 76 gave Joe Corr 100, 100, 99, 82, 76, 70 very little chances to put the home team I vs 0 ahead. Davy Smith 2-0 100, 100, 98, 97, 80 levelled the game defeating Davey Clarke 88, 81, 61, 60, 60. Sean Armstrong 2-1 (23 & 26) 121, 100, 95, 85, 85, 81, 81, threw cracking darts when beating Paul Smith (30) 121, 100, 81, 81, 78 to put D/C 2 vs 1 up. Gary Smith 2-0 (26 & 30) 130, 100, 100, 83 made it 1 vs 3 to the visitors when he won the next one against Casey’s Colly McPeake. At this stage Casey’s turned things around brilliantly taking the next three in a row with smashing wins from Stevie Leckey 2-0 100, 100, 86, 81, Matt Doyle 2-0 (20 & 22) 137, 100, 100, 85, 82, 81 and Olcan Kearney (29 & 29) 100, 100, 85, 81, 81, 60, 60, who all won against Harry Smith, Matt Doone 134, 100, 81, 60, 60 & Connor Kearney 85, 85, 85 leaving the score 4 vs 3 to Casey’s. Alan Hanna 2-0 (28) then used all his years of experience to produce the goods 100, 100, 85, 81, 73, 71 to beat Joe McLaughlin 94, 85, 81, 77, 72 and leave the final score a draw 4 vs 4 and a fair result.
