HIBS 58 WIN TIGHT CLASH WITH CASEYS

HIBS 56 5 CASEYS 3

This was a great match the whole way through with Hibs going 2 - 0 up thanks to Sean Patterson 2 - 0

(29&20) over Steven Leckey and Tony Corr also with a2 - 0 win (27&25) over Gerard Holmes.Matt

Boyle soon made it 2 - 1 with a 2 - 0 win (23 &28) ) over Peter McDonnell jnr.It was soon 3 - 1 thanks to

another 2 - 0 win for Mark Lynch(26&21)against Olcan Kearney. Back came Caseys with a man of the

match performance from Dan Cahoon(16&21)to beat Martin Mooney and it was soon 3 - 3 when

Seamy Roberts beat Davy McCusker in 23&26 darts.Hibs proved the stronger with another brace of

2 - 0 scorelines coming from Martin Corbe tt(21&23) over Eugene Brannigan and Peter McDonnell

snr(24&23)against Brian Kerr

CASEMENT 2 CLONARD HIBS 6

Kevin Campbell got Hibs of to a great start with a man of the match performance (21&18) in a 2 - 1

win over Ciaran McKay.It was soon 1 - 1 thanks a 2 - 0 win for Henry McCann against Anto

Smith,.Pearse Maguire beat Pat Burns 2 - 1 to edge Hibs ahead Soon it was 3 - 1 with a 2 - 0 win for

Connor Hanna which included a great 17 darter against Gerry McCormick and it was then 4 - 1 when

John Doyle(22&21) beat Mickey Ti erney2 - 0 .Back came Casement with Paul Condon beatimg

JohnMcCann 2 - 0. .Hibs went on to claim the match with Seamus Grant (24&24)in a 2 - 0 win over

Martin Lavery and AdamMcDade winning 2 - 0 in23 & 24 darts against Vinty Lenzi

FORESTERS 3 STAR CELTIC 5

A great away win for the Celtic! Oliver McMahon (27 & 26) made it 1 - 0 against Steven Curley but

Celtic raced into a 4 - 1 lead thanks to Rab L yttle (21&74 fin) beating Andy Gray 2 - 1 followed by a 2 - 0

win for Paddy McAleese over Ray Lavery and then Gerard Smith beat G erard Callaghan 2 - 1and Tony

Kelly beating Michael Burns .The Forresters made it 4 - 2 with aman of the match performance from

Paul Stafford (30 & 22) over Eamonn McGovern .Henry McTasney made sure of the points with a 2 - 0

win over Caoihim Burns and in the la st game Sean Mc Curdy won 2 - 0 against Paul Fitzpatrick

O' DONNELLS 3 ST MATTHEWS 5

The home side went 1 - 0 up thanks a 2 - 0 win for Paul Press (21 & 24 ) over Jim Lavery but St

Matthews reeled off the next four games with 2 - 0 wins for Con Kielty (25&19),John Considine,Joe O

Kane and man of the match Martin Irwin (20 &20) against Eddie Robb.Tom Kearney,Brendan

McStravick and Kevin O Neill respectively.Ricky Saddler made it 4 - 2 with a 2 - 0 win over Billy McDade

but soon Jap Mc Kinley made sure of the points with a 2 - 0 win over John Quinn and in the last game

Tucker Kearney beat Michael McCartan 2 - 0

CRUMLIN STAR 4 DONEGAL CELTIC 4

Fra Glennon put the home team 1 - 0 up with a 2 - 0 win over Felix McGeown but it was soon 1 - 1 when

Patrick McGeown(25&24) beat Tommy Henry 2 - 0.The Star went 2 - 1 up when Robert Creen beat

Kevin O Carroll but back came the DC when Paddy McGuinness beat Peter Fitzpatrick 2 - 0.The DC

then went 4 - 2 thanks to a brace of 2 - 0 wins for man of the match Matt Doone (23&25)against

Seamy Martin and Gary Smith (22&29) against Dougie Bowes .Not to be outdone the home side

fought back for a spoil of the points thanks to 2 - 1 win for Freddie Stilgees over Harry Smith and a 2 - 0

win for Ben Lagan (26&26) against Colm McGuinness

STAR CELTIC WIN THE MARTIN CURRAN CUP

PRELIMINARY MATCH

DONEGAL CELTIC 5 O DONNELLS 4

Donegal Celtic raced into a 3 - 0 lead thanks to thanks to Paddy McGuinness , Joe Corr and Gary Smith

beating Eddie Robb,Brendan McStravick and John Quinn but O Donnells soon made it 3 - 2 thanks to

Tucker Kearney beating Harry Smith and Jim Lynch winning against Matt Doone.Up next stepp ed

Alan Hanna with a man of the match performance (29) which included a 180 to make it 4 - 2 against

Kevin O Neill.The O Donnells dug deep and pulled it back to 4=4 thanks to Ricky Saddler beating

Colm McGuinness and Tom Kearney beating Kevin O Carroll .Now it was down to the last game and

Patrick McGeown proved too strong for Martin Lawlor 5 - 4 DC

SEMI - FINAL 1

CASEYS 2 STAR CELTIC 5

Hen ry McTasney snr put Celltic 1 - 0 up beating Gerry McIlduff but soon it was 1=1 thanks to Gerard

Holmes beating Eamonn McGovern .Rab Lyttle made it 2 - 1 C eltic with a win over Peter Leckey and

again the match was level thanks to Matt Boyle beating Gerard Bur ns.That was as good as it got for

Caseys as Celtic raced away to win 5 - 2 thanks to Paul Fitzpatrick followed by man of the match Hugh

Grieve (30) and the winning match darts were thrown by Paddy McAleese all winning against Seamy

Roberts ,Orcan Kearney and Eugene Brannigan respectively.

SEMI - FINAL 2

FORESTERS 1 DONEGAL CELTIC 5

In the first game Harry Smith put in a man of the match (30) against Ray Lavery to put the DC 1 - 0 up

and soon it was 2 - 0 thanks to Kevin O Carroll winning against Michael Burns . Ver y quickly it was 3 - 0

as Colm McGuinness beat Paul Stafford.The Foresters got back in the game when Oliver McMahon

beat Matt Doone but that was as good as it got with the DC winning the next two games thanks to

Gary Smith beating Kevin Robinson and Joe Corr clinching the game against Sean McCurdy

THE FINAL

DONEGAL CELTIC 2 STAR CELTIC 5

So it was a battle of the Celtics and it was the Star who went 2 - 0 up thanks to Paul Fitzpatrick

beating Matt Doone and Paddy McAleese beating Joe Corr . In the third game Pa trick McGeown put

in a man of the match performance against Rab Lyttle to make it 2 - 1 but Aaron McGovern soon

made it 3 - 1 with a win over Kevin O Carroll . The DC dug in and Paddy McGuinness made it 3 - 2

beating Henry McTasney snr.Hugh Grieve then stepped up to beat the unlucky Alan Hanna and the

Star were in touching distance of winning the cup .The next game proved to be the last with both

players Colm McGuinness and Henry McTasney jnr showing a bit of nerves on the finishing but it was

a jubilant McTasne y who hit the winning double and send the Star players wild in celebration.

A huge congratulations to the Star Celtic on belying their league position and winning the Curran Cup

and thank you to St Matthews for sponsoring the cup and for the use of their r ooms.Commiserations

HIBS 58 WIN JOHN PATTERSON CUP

PRELIMINARY MATCH

CASEMENT 1 CLONARD HIBS 5

The score line is a bit harsh but its doubles that count. There were some close games but Clonard

raced into a 4 - 0 lead starting with a man of the match performance from Adam McDade (28) over

Henry McCann followed by Connor Toner beating Sean Kerr. Next up Kevin Campbell overcame

Ciaran McKay and John McCann beat Vinty Lenzi. Casement showed some resistance with Gerry

McCormick beating Anto Smith, but it was in vain as Pe arce Maguire beat Pat Burns to send Clonard

through to the semis

SEMI FINAL 1

HIBS 58 5 ST MATTHEWS 3

This was a tight game and Tony Corr (29) got 58 of to 1 - 0 lead beating Mick McCartan but it was

soon 1 - 1 when Martin Irwin beat Peter McDonnell jnr.Mark Lynch then threw a great man of the

match 27 darter against John Considine to m ake it 2 - 1 to 58.In the next game Joe McAttamney

levelled the game beating Damien Corbett.Hibs 58 took the next two to go 4 - 2 up thanks to Davy

McCusker beating Billy McDade and Peter McDonnell (30) beating Con Kielty.St Matthews were not

done yet as Joe O Kane beat Paddy Dempsey to make it 4 - 3 but fittingly Sean Patterson won the

match in his father’s cup beating Jimmy Lavery.

SEMI FINAL 2

CLONARD HIBS 4 CRUMLIN STAR 5

This one went all the way with never more than one in it. Kevin Campbell beat Fra Glen non 1 - 0 Hibs

Up stepped Seamy Martin to beat John Doyle 1 - 1. Hibs went 2 - 1 up with Pearce Maguire beating

Paul Porter but the Star drew level thanks to a man of the match performance from Ben Lagan (28)

over Dan Delaney. The Star went in front thanks to Pe ter Fitzpatrick beating Anto Smith to make it 3 -

2, It was soon 3 - 3 when Adam McDade beat Tommy Henry but then the Star edged ahead 4 - 3 thanks

to Dougie Bowes beating John McCann only for Connor Hanna to step up to beat Robert Creen and

send it to the last match. The last two players were Connor Toner and Freddie Stilgees and it was

Freddie who hit the winning do uble to send the Star through to the final.

FINAL

HIBS 58 5 CRUMLIN STAR 4

The Hibs rooms were packed for the final and the two teams did not disapp oint as this match went

the whole way. The Star went 2 - 0 up thanks to Dougie Bowes(31)beating Sean Patterson and Paul

Porter beating Tony Corr in 28 darts .It then went 2 - 1 when Damien Corbett beat Robert Creen and

then Davy McCusker levelled the game with a man of the match performance beating Tommy Henry

in 26 darts .Seamy Martin put the Star 3 - 2 up with a win over Peter McDonnel only for Mark Lynch to

level it again beating Freddie Stilgees3 - 3The next game saw 58 edge ahead 4 - 3 thanks to Peter Mc

Donnell snr beating Peter Fitzpatrick. Not to be outdone Ben Lagan beat Paddy Dempsey to send it

into the final game the final pair were Martin Corbett and Fra Glennon and it was to be Corbett that

stepped up with a steady 30 darter to win the cup for Hibs 58

I w ould like to give the Patterson family a special mention for the great spread they put on in honour

IT IS WITH DEEP REGRET THAT THE CHAIRMAN AND THE CENTRAL LEAGUE COMMITTEE LEARN OF THE DEATH OF DENIS KELLY. DENIS WAS FIRSTLY A GENTLEMAN AND ALSO A LONG TIME STALWART AND MEMBER OF THE CENTRAL LEAGUE. DENIS WAS A PROMIENENT PLAYER, FIRSTLY ON THE VERY SUCCESSFUL PETER PAN TEAM AND THEN ON THE DWYERS TEAM, WINNING MANY COMPETITIONS, NAMELY THE 3 A SIDES AND THE 5 A SIDES ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION. DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS ENTIRE FAMILY CIRCLE, MARY QUEEN OF IRELAND PRAY FOR HIM. DENIS'S FUNERAL WILL TAKE PLACE THIS COMMING WEDNESDAY AFTER 1 O'CLOCK MASS IN ST.PAULS.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE SUCCESSFUL CASEMENT A TEAM ON WINNING THE JOHN CASEY 5-A-SIDES CUP WHICH WAS HELD IN THE HIBS CLUBROOMS. THE TEAM COMPRISING OF GERRY MCCORMICK,PAUL CONDON HENRY MCCANN, VINTY LENZI AND CIARAN MCCAY BATTLED THEIR WAY TO THE FINAL WITH TOUGH MATCHES, FIRSTLY AGAINST DONEGAL CELTIC, THEN CLONARD HIBS AND EVENTUALLY THE FINAL AGAINST CRUMLIN STAR. CONGRATULATIONS.

IT IS WITH DEEP REGRET THAT THE COMMITTEE LEARN OF THE DEATH OF MICHAEL JOHNSTON.  MICHAEL STARTED PLAYING DARTS IN THE CENTRAL LEAGUE AT A VERY YOUNG AGE, HE WAS A PROMINENT MEMBER ALONGSIDE HIS OLDER BROTHERS JIM AND CHARLIE IN THE SUCCESSFUL FELONS TEAM IN THE 1970'S & 80'S. HE ALSO PLAYED AND REPRESENTED THE CENTRAL LEAGUE TEAM MANY MANY TIMES.  DEPESTEST SYMPATHY TO HIS ENTIRE FAMILY CIRCLE, MARY QUEEN OF IRELAND PRAY FOR HIM.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE STAR CELTIC TEAM WHO WON THE CURRAN CUP, WHICH WAS HELD IN THE ST. MATTHEWS CLUBROOMS. THEY MASTERED CASEYS 5 2 IN THE SEMI FINAL, AND THEN WENT ON TO BEAT DONEGAL CELTIC, (WHO HAD BEATEN FORESTERS 5 1 IN THE OTHER SEMI FINAL),  BY THE SAME SCORELINE IN THE FINAL, WELL DONE.



CONGRATULATIONS IS ALSO AFFORDED TO THE HIBS 58 TEAM, WHO WON THE JOHN PATTERSON CUP, WHICH WAS HELD IN THE HIBS CLUBROOMS. IN A NIGHT OF CLOSE MATCHES THEY SQUEEZED PAST ST. MATTHEWS BY 5 4 IN THE SEMI FINAL, AND THEN BY THE SAME SCORELINE THEY BEAT CRUMLIN STAR IN THE FINAL, (WHO HAD EARLIER BEATEN CLONARD HIBS BY 5 4 IN THE OTHER SEMI FINAL).

HIBS 58 WIN DERBY MATCH WITH CLONARD HIBS.

Hibs 58 stay unbeaten winning 5 - 3 against second place Clonard Hibs. Unfortunately, I did not

receive a match card for this game. All I can give you are the winners for both teams. The five

winners for Hibs 58 were Peter McDonnell Snr & Jnr, Martin Mooney, Davy Mc Cusker and Sean

Patterson. The three Clonard winners were Adam McDade, Conor Hanna and Kevin Campbell.

In the other games Casement edge past St Matthews, The DC beat Forresters, O'Donells have a good

win away against Star Celtic and Crumlin Star win away to Casey’s.


St Matthews 3 Casement 5.

Casement went into a 3 - 0 lead when Chopper McKay beat an unlucky Billy Mc Dade 2 - 1, followed by

Vinty Lenzy winning 2 - 0 against Con Kielty and Martin Lavery (21 & 27) winning 2 - 0 against Jim

Lavery. Pat McGahan pulled one back beating a very unlucky Gerry McCormick 2 - 1 but soon it was 4 -

1 with a man of the match performance from Paul Condon ( 20 & 17) over Jap McKinley. St Matthews

rallied back to 4 - 3 with 2 - 0 wins for John Considine and Martin Irwin (24 & 21) over Sean Kerr and

Michael Tierney, only for Henry McCann to beat Joe 0'Kane 2 - 0 in 28 & 24 darts to claim the match for

Casement.


DONEGAL CELTIC 6 FORESTERS 2.

Donegal Celtic raced into a 3 - 0 lead thanks to Colm and Paddy McGuinness who hit the big 180J both

winning 2 - 1 against Michael Burns and Oliver McMahon Jnr, and Gary Smith 2 - 0 over C Burns .Then

Paul Stafford made it 3 - 1 with a 2 - 0 win over Junior McManus. It was soon 5 - 1 when Harry Smith

won 2 - 0 over Andy Gray and a 2 - 0 win for Matt Doon over Ray Lavery. Sean Mc Curdy pulled one

back with a 2 - 1 win over Alan Hanna only for Patrick McGeown to put in a man of the match

performance with a brace of 25 darters in a 2 - 1 win over Sean Fitzpatrick who had a neat 20 darter

with an 80 finish.


STAR CELTIC 2 O'DONNELLS 6.

O'Donnells raced into a 5 - 0 lead thanks to Tom Kearney (26) 2 - 0 over Henry McTasney Snr, followed

by a 2 - 1 win for Kevin O 'Neill over HenryMcTasney Jnr. Next it was 2 - 0 win for Ricky Saddler (22 &

27 ) over Gerard Smith and man of the match Paul Press (26 & 22) winning 2 - 0 against Rab Lyttle and

then John Quinn chipped in with a 2 - 0 win over Paddy McAleese. Hugh Grieve made it 5 - 1 beating

Tucker Kearney 2 - 0..Eddie Robb made it 6 - 1 with a 2 - 0 win over Eamon McGovern and Paul

Fitzpatrick won the last game 2 - 0 against Brendan McStravick.


CASEYS 3  CRUMLIN STAR 5.

Caseys went 1 - 0 up thanks to a 2 - 1 win for Stevie Leckey over Paul Porter, but it was soon 1 - 1 with

Seamy Martin firing two twenty - one darters in his 2 - 0 win over Eugene Brannigan. Fra Glennon

made it 2 - 1 with a 2 - 1 win over Liam McMenamin. Back came Casey’s with Brian Kerr winning 2 - 0

over Dougie Bowes. The next game saw a man of the match performance from Matt Boyle (20 & 21)

darts beating Ben Lagan who threw a super 15 darter with an 81 finish, but then the Crumlin Star

pulled out all the stops to win the next three games and claim the points thanks to Peter Fitzpatrick,

Tommy Henry and Robert Creen(23) all winning 2 - 0 against Peter Leckey, Gerard Holmes and Orcan

Kearney respectively.

This week it’s the split cups with the Sean Patterson cup in the Hibs rooms and the Martin Curran

IT IS WITH MUCH REGRET THAT WE LEARN OF THE DEATH OF JOE HAUGHEY, A FORMER AND PROMINENT MEMBER OF THE CENTRAL LEAGUE.  JOE, A FORMER INDIVIDUAL WINNER WAS A MEMBER OF THE OLD EXCISE TEAM AND PLAYED A LEADING ROLE ON THE CENTRAL LEAGUE TEAM THAT WON THE NORTHERN IRELAND CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE COMPETITION IN THE EARLY 1980'S. DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS ENTIRE FAMILY CIRCLE, MARY QUEEN OF IRELAND PRAY FOR HIM.
