Welcome back to the FonaCab Central darts league where all descended on the Hibs Club for the John Caseys 5 aside cup. With a 1 leg 701 format all players were motivated to progress to next weeks finals night.
The first round of 5 preliminary matches took place with Clonard Hibs B taking on Donegal Celtic A. The first game saw Joe Scott take care of Colm Maguiness in 31 darts. Tommy Fitzpatrick quickly made it 2-0 winning in 34 darts against John McG. Anto Smith made it 3-0 to the Hibs men beating Matt Doone to send them into the next round. Prelim 2 saw O’Donnells C play Crumlin Star A. Tommy Henry gave Crumlin the lead against Tucker Kearney before Peter McAllorum made it 2-0 beating Eddie Robb. The last game saw Dougie Bowes beat Tom Kearney to send the Crumlin men into the next round. Prelim 3 saw St Matts A take on Casement B. Game 1 saw Pat McGahan get St Matts of to the perfect start beating Vinty Lenzie before Con Kielty beat Kieran Maguinness in 24 darts. Joe Doone rallied his team in beating Billy McDade before Martin Irwin ensured St Matts progression by beating Pat Barnes. Prelim 4 saw Hibs 58 A do battle with Forresters B. Davy McCusker put the Hibs men ahead beating Paddy Dempsey before Martin Mooney made it 2-0 beating in Gerard Callaghan in 30 darts. Peter McDonnell snr made it 3-0 to Hibs with a 82 finish in 27 darts to beat Andy Gray and ensure progression. The final prelim saw Star Celtic A take on Hibs 58 B. Gerard Smith got Star Celtic off to a flyer beating Sean Patterson before Mark Lynch levelled for the Hibs men. Jim Lynch gave Hibs the lead in beating Aaron McGovern before Damian Corbett ensured Hibs progress by beating Henry McTasney jnr.
With the preliminaries taken care of all teams were fancying their chances of progress to next weeks finals night and a shot at lifting the John Caseys cup.
Match 1 Caseys A take on Crumlin Star B. Paul Porter gave the Crumlin men the lead in 28 darts with a 180 against Peter Leckey. Eugene Brannigan levelled the match in beating Jamesy Porter in 30 darts before Stevie Leckey gave Caseys the lead by beating Fra Glennon in 30 darts with a 62 finish. The final game saw Matt Boyle beat Willie Mullan to ensure progression for Caseys.
Match 2 saw St Matts B play Star Celtic B with Henry McTasney snr getting Star Celtic off to a flyer beating Jimmy Lavery. Rab Lyttle made it 2-0 against Gerard McGuinness before John Considine rallied his teammates in beating Paddy McAlleese. Jap McKinley levelled the match beating Gerard Burns in 34 darts with a 180 before Joe McAttamney put it all together beating Tony Kelly in 25 darts to send St Matts B into next weeks final night.
Match 1 saw Clonard Hibs B take on O’Donnells B with Kevin O’Neill getting O’Ds off to a perfect start beating Anto Smith. Stevie Jones readily brushed aside Joe Scott before Dan Sloan rallied the Hibs men in beating James McStravick. The last game saw Rab Green beat John McCann to ensure a place in the finals night.
Match 2 saw Forresters A take on Clonard Hibs A with Stephen Magee providing Hibs with the lead over Paul Stafford. Kevin Robinson levelled the match against Conor Toner before John McGrath reestablished Hibs lead beating Sean McCurdy in 29 darts. The last game saw Adam McDade beat Sean Fitzpatrick to send the Hibs men into next weeks finals in hope of glory.
Match 1 saw St Matts A take on Hibs 58 A with Tony Corr getting the Hibs men off the mark beating Sean McMahon in 30 darts. Martin Irwin quickly levelled against Peter McDonnell snr before Pat McGahan gave St Matts the lead in beating Martin Corbett. Davy McCusker restores parity against Billy McDade leaving Con Kielty and Martin Mooney to battle it out in the crucial final game. Both players scored well however it was Kielty who ensured the victory for St Matts and a well deserved place in the finals night.
Match 2 saw Caseys B take on Donegal Celtic B with Joe Corr giving DC the lead befor Gerry McIlduff levelled the match against Paddy McKeown. Liam McMenamin gave Caseys the lead in beating Alana Hanna before Dee Ireland levelled the match going into another crucial last game. Olcan Kearney and Sean Armstrong both battled well. However it was to be Kearney to prevail and ensure progression for the Caseys men.
Match 1 saw Crumlin Star A take on Casement A with Tommy Henry giving Crumlin the leafs beating Paul Condon in 29 darts. Dougie Bowes quickly made it 2-0 to The Crumlin men beating Michael Tierney before Peter Fitzpatrick made it 3-0 against Martin Lavery to ensure a place in next weeks finals night.
Match 2 saw O’Donnells A take on Hibs 58 B with Jim Lynch giving Hibs the lead beating Martin Lawlor. Damien Corbett quickly made it 2-0 to the Hibs men throwing a 180 along the way before Mark Lynch beat J Quinn to ensure the win and progression to the next rounds.
With the first night taken care of we are now down to 8 team all vying for cup glory. Crumlin Star A, Caseys A and B, St Matthews A and B, Clonard Hibs A, O’Donnells and Hibs 58 B all remain standing and fancying their chances of success.
