ST MATTHEWS WIN JOHN PATTERSON CUP

The Hibs club were packed in anticipation of the semi finals and final of the John Patterson cup The draw was made and the first semi final paired Crumlin Star against Casement and that left the second semi final to be St Matthews against Clonard Hibs

SEMI FINAL 1

Crumlin Star 3 Casement 5

This was a tight affair the whole way through with Gerry McCormick (100/100/140) beating Dougie Bowes to put Casement one up but it was 1-1 when Freddie Stilgees (125/99) beat Joe Doone It was 2-1 to Casement thanks to a win for Ricky Saddler (36) over Tommy Henry and Eddie Robb (32,100/100) made it 3-1 beating Peter Fitzpatrick. Robert Creen beat Ciaran McKay to pull one back for the Star and it was all square at 3-3 thanks to a man of the match performance from Ben Lagan (29,100/100/81) against Kieran McGuinness. Casement went 4-3 up with Vinty Lenzi (36,100/100) beating Seamie Martin and Casement were through to the final when Henry McCann won a scrappy game against Peter McAlorum leaving the final score at 5-3 to Casement

SEMI FINAL 2

St Matthews 5

Clonard Hibs 0

I don't think anyone in the room saw this result coming but St Matthews threw great darts in a one sided game starting with Jimmy Lavery (31,85/81/100/81) beating an unlucky Anto Smith and it was 2-0 thanks to Billy McDade (35,92,85,85) beating Kevin Campbell. Micky McCartan (100/95/85) made it 3 beating Dan Delaney and then Davy McCusker (27,100/180/139&72 fin) produced a man of the match performance against John McCann and Dessie Magee(34,100/100/100/98) wrapped things up with a win over Sean Paul Grant to leave the final score at an incredible 5-0 scoreline to St Matthews

THE FINAL

St Matthews 5

Casement 2

The crowd were ready for a tight final and that's exactly how it started with Con Kielty putting St Matthews 1-0 up beating Eddie Robb and the next game was a cracker with Martin Irwin starting like a steam train (125/100/81/140/125) only for Gerry McCormick (30,81/80/81/100/83)to stick with him and turn in a man of the match performance to make it 1-1.The next game was another high scoring game between Joe McAttamney (140/100/81/137) and Kieran McGuinness (85/85/85/140) but it was Kieran(35) who hit the double and make it 2-1 to Casement. On the fourth game Vinty Lenzi(85/83/85/100) pushed ahead against Allan Brown who couldn't buy a treble 20 (7×60) but Vinty struggled at his double and Allan (35) stepped in to make it 2-2.Next up saw Davy McCusker (32,100/83/97& his second 180 of the night) who made it 3-2 to St Matthews with a win over Joe Doone and it was 4-2 when a rejuvenated Micky McCartan (85/100/81/100) beat Ciaran McKay. The next match was another good game with Ricky Saddler (83/97/79/95) starting of the quicker against Dessie Magee (33,81/99/100) but Ricky had 3 darts at a double but missed to allow Dessie to step in and finish the match and send the St Matthews boys wild .

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Patterson family for a great spread of food and for refereeing and marking the final. Also a thanks to the Hibs club for their sponsorship and use of their club

Congratulations once again to St Matthews and commiserations to the other three sides on the night
