Swilly Newboys inflict hurtful loss on reigning Champions

 

Swilly 5 vs 3 St. Mathews;

 

The Swilly team welcomed last seasons champions St. Mathews to their Suffolk road home, hoping to continue in the fine form they showed in spurts last week. They were unlucky in that first match not take at least get a point. They learnt their lessons well as they inflicted a very rare league defeat on a shell shocked short strand outfit.

Billy McDade (2 - 0) 100, 98, 85, 85, 85, 81, 60, 60 got the champs off to a flier beating Swilly’s Mick Sullivan 89, 89, 82. The second game was an absolute cracker as both players peppered the trebles with Swilly’s Patrick McGeown (2 - 1) 17 & 19 140, 100, 100, 100, 100, 95, 81, 81, 81, 81 beating Martin Irwin 17 140,135, 100, 99, 85, 83, 66, 60, 60 to level it at 1 vs 1. Davy McCusker (2 - 0) 20 & 27 140, 100, 100, 80, 67, 60 restored order beating Eamon McVeigh putting his team back in front 2 vs 1 only to watch Swilly’s Paul Goodman (2 - 1) 23 & 33 109, 89, 85, 85, 83, 78, 77, 60 , 60 edge Gerard McGuiness 121, 100, 89, 81, 69, 67, 60, 60, 60, 60, to level it again. The Swilly turned the screws tightly on their opponents when first Kevin O’Neill (2 - 1) 21 & 24 with fantastic throws of 180, 135, 132, 125, 96, 87, 86, 85, 85 beat Jimmy Lavery 29 100, 97, 95, 85, 85, 81, 77, 75 and then Mick Burns (2 - 0) 24 & 29 138, 86, 81, 79, 77, 76, 63, 63 threw great darts to put the home team on the brink of a marvellous result. St. Mathews were reeling and for the second week running they found themselves 4 vs 2 down. Con Keilty (2 - 1) 24 & 30 140, 100, 95, 85, 84, 79, 60, 60, 60 made it 4 vs 3 beating Tom Kearney 26 95, 89, 86, 83, 83, 80 but Tom’s son Tucker made amends with his second win from two games (2 - 0) 26 & 32 98, 96, 85, 85, 60, 60, 60 beating Mick McCartan 121, 100, 62 in the final game of the night to complete a fantastic win for them.

Hibs 58 3 vs 5 Casement;

 

Two title contenders met in the Hibs clubrooms with the result in the balance going right to the last leg. From the very start though Casement showed their intentions with Pat McGuiness (2 - 1) 100, 100, 100, 99, 85,81, 80 beating Jap Craig 23 133, 99, 95, 95, 86, 84=3, 79, 77. Paul Condon (2 – 0) 26 & 33 100, 98, 96, 85, 85 made it 0 vs 2 till the away team beating Paddy Dempsey. Henry McCann (2 – 0) 27 & 31 100, 100, 87, 84 then made it 0 vs 3 when he defeated Sean Patterson 100, 90, 84. Tucker Clarke (2 - 1) 22 & 28 137, 100, 100, 100, 95, 94, 85, 85 got Hibs off the mark in the contest winning a tight game against Ricky Saddler 30 95, 95, 95, 85, 83, 83 to leave it at 1 vs 3. Colm McGuiness (2 – 0) 24 & 30 125, 100, 85, 85, 85,60, 60, showed experience well beyond his age beating Joe Dineen 140, 100, 99, 83, 81, 81 to ensure at least a point for Casement. Hibs fought back valiantly with first Mark Lynch (2 – 1) 135, 100, 100, 85, 80 beating Sean Kerr and then Tony Corr (2 – 0) 21 & 29 darts 138, 100, 100, 100, 100, 85 beating Ciaran McKay to make it 3 vs 4. Casement however had the better man on the night to seal a great victory when Gerry McCormick (2 – 0 ) 140, 100, 85, 81 beat Hib’s Damien Corbett 140, 127, 96, 85, 80 to leave the final score 3 vs 5 in their favour

Crumlin Star 4 vs 4 Donegal Celtic

 

Crumlin Star were at home for the second match in a row this time against the Donegal Celtic outfit and what a cracking game it turned out to be. Crumlin found themselves 0 vs 3 down when D/C’s Sean Armstrong (2 – 1) 140, 140, 85, 83, 81, 81, beat Hugh Grieves 140, 100, 100, 100, 97 Davy Smith (2 – 0) beat Fra Glennon and Gary Smith (2 – 0) 26 100, 100, 96, 83,70 also beat Peter McAlorum 140, 100, 95,84, 81,60. Star fought back well taking the next two in a row with great darts from Peter Fitzpatrick (2 – 1) 22 98, 95, 85, 85, 79, 79, 78, 72, 70 against Alan Hanna 21 125, 100, 100, 100, 77, 70 and John Dillon (2 – 1) 25 & 28 140, 100, 85, 85, 85, 70 against Caolin Kearney 100, 85, 81, 77, 70 leaving it at 2 vs 3 at this stage. James McStravick (2 – 0) 22 & 27 100, 100, 85, 85, 81 made it 2 vs 4 and two wins from two in league matches and also MOM’s so far this season when he beat Star’s Jim Flannery 95, 93, 85, 83, 79, 79, 79 leaving D/C on the brink of their first win only for Star to find two cracking wins from the darts of Dougie Bowes (2 – 0) 27 & 29 85, 85, 85, 85, 85, 71 over Matt Doone 135, 95, 85, 70, 66, 60 and Tommy Henry (2 – 0) 140, 100, 100, 85, 66, 60 against Junior McManus 99, 98, 85, 84, 77, 66 to end the game all square and prove again how tight points are going to be to get in this great league.

Casey’s 2 vs 6 Clonard Hibs

 

Clonard Hibs got off to a flier in their game with Casey’s taking the first three games without reply. Dan Sloan (2 – 0) beat Stevie Lecky 140, 100, 100, 83 Anto Smith (2 – 1) 140, 140, did likewise to Liam McMenamin 133, 97, 85, 83 and Dan Delaney (2 – 1) 121, 100, 95, 85, 81 just got by Olcan Kearney 100, 95, 94, 85, 81. Paul Smyth (2 – 0) 100, 99, 85, 83, got Casey’s first score on the board beating Hib’s Anto Officer before Adam McDade (2 – 0) 16 140, 121, 100, 100, 85 against Gerard Holmes 140, 100 Richard Mervyn 27 121, 95, 85, 85, 85 over Connor Smyth 100, 100, 100, 81 and Connor Hanna (2 – 0) 21 & 21 100fin in a MOM performance against Dan Cahoon 100, 85, 85, 80 ensured the falls road lads brought both points back down the road with them. Matt Boyle (2 -1) 20 & 23 140, 135, 121, 100, 99, 81, 81, threw brilliantly and got the better of Hib’s Pearse Maguire (29) 140, 123, 99, 97, 97, 85 to take the last leg of the match for Casey’s and leave the final score 2 vs 6 to Hibs
